Welcome to Basil and Buttercream, we are so glad you stopped by! We are twin sisters Ami and Tara. Self taught bakers who love creating delicious and stylish desserts. We are from a large family and grew up in a small town in eastern Washington. After graduating from Washington State University (Go Cougs!) we moved to Seattle together. We are here to share delicious recipes, stylish decorating tips and how to throw fun themed parties. We hope to inspire your inner sweet side!
Meet Ami
Hi, I’m Ami! Tara is always quick to point out that I am the younger twin, but only by 4 minutes. My husband Jerrod and I have two adorable little kids, Caiden and Sadie. After having Sadie I decided to take some time off and become a stay at home mom. But lets first talk about what I did before I made this big life change. I went to school for fashion merchandising and dabbled in that a little after college. I quickly decided I wanted to go in a different direction and got my foot in the door in the event planning industry. For the past 12 years I planned and coordinated weddings and corporate events for a full-service event and catering company, Blue Ribbon Cooking. I have always loved to bake, but it was here where I really discovered my passion for it. I’m excited to take the skills I learned there, from wedding cakes to flower arranging, and share them with you all.
Meet Tara
Hello friends, Tara here! From a very young age I’ve always had a creative spark in me which lead me to a career in Interior Design. I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design and have been working as a commercial interior designer for the past 13 years. The combination of my design background and huge sweet tooth lead me to take up baking. I loved the idea of creating something that is not only delicious but also beautiful. When I am not designing or baking, another passion of mine is traveling. I’m always planning where my next adventure is going to be and collecting as many stamps in my passport as possible.
